The details, made clear.
How to create your map, buy the digital files and access your order. We also explain which printed options are still being prepared.
Getting started
Can I place an order now?
Yes. Create your design and buy the final PDF and PNG. No account is needed. Printing and framing are separate.
What is a personalised star map?
It is a calculated representation of star positions for a date, place and time. You can add names and personal words. It is not a historical photograph of the sky.
Is there a digital version?
Yes. Your purchase includes a final PDF and PNG at the size you choose. Payment and proof approval are required before downloading. Printing and framing are separate purchases. The free layout preview is not the final file.
Who runs KeptStars?
KeptStars is a brand of Webify Inc., a company based in the United States. KeptStars Team is the brand’s editorial team, not an independent review organization.
Do I need design experience?
No. Choose a template and change its details and words. Layout, lettering and layer adjustments are optional. You can check the composition in the on-screen preview.
The sky, date and time
Which details determine the sky?
The date, local time, time zone, latitude and longitude determine the calculated view. Names and dedications change the design, not the astronomical positions.
What happens if I do not know the time?
Turn off “I know the time.” The designer uses 22:00 local time and labels it as illustrative. That is a chosen reference, not a claim about the unknown exact moment.
Can I choose a daytime event?
Yes. The chart can represent celestial positions during daylight. It does not claim those stars were visible to the naked eye or reconstruct the brightness of the daytime sky.
Should I enter local time or UTC?
Enter local clock time and the correct time zone for the place. The calculation handles the offset. If a clock change makes the time ambiguous or nonexistent, check the event details before continuing.
Can I choose any address or city?
Yes. The map uses the location’s coordinates and time zone. Check the selected place carefully; editing the place name printed on the map alone does not move the sky location.
Which dates can I use?
The current designer accepts dates from 1900 through 2050. Its preview has documented astronomical simplifications; it should not be described as an observatory-grade reconstruction.
Does the map show the weather that day?
No. Clouds, daylight, terrain, buildings and light pollution are not reconstructed. A calculated sky and what a person could actually see are different things.
Is this an astrology chart or a way to name a star?
Neither. KeptStars creates astronomical artwork for an event. It does not interpret horoscopes, assign official star names or transfer ownership of a star.
How accurate is the star map?
The preview calculates a local sky from catalogue positions, with limits explained on our astronomy page. It omits precession, proper motion and atmospheric refraction. Rendered Moon and planet images are enlarged; the Milky Way panorama has about 1–2 degrees of local alignment uncertainty.
Does the sky change with the date and place?
Yes. The date, time and coordinates all inform the calculation. The map does not reconstruct clouds, light pollution or the actual viewing conditions that day.
Design and personalization
Can I change a template?
Yes. Edit the event details, wording, colours and fonts. You can also change the sky count, arrangement, orientation and selected layers. A template is a starting point.
How many skies can I put in one design?
From one to six. Each sky has its own event details. More skies leave less space for each map and its labels, so review the composition at your chosen size.
Which fonts and text limits are available?
The designer offers classic, modern and monospaced font families. The title allows 70 characters, the dedication 100 and each moment label 40. Those limits do not guarantee that every layout will be equally readable.
Can I choose the size and orientation?
Yes. The designer offers several dimensions and portrait or landscape layouts. It updates the preview proportions. The selected size determines your digital files. Match it to the dimensions your printer and frame support.
Why do the examples look different from the designer?
The live layout is a quick star chart. Use Preview the finished artwork to see your chosen sky layers with the final renderer before payment, at a smaller size. After editing the design, request a fresh preview. Review the final high-resolution proof after purchase.
Do I need an account to design or buy a map?
No account is required. Guest saves are available in the same browser for 30 days. Checkout asks for your email address; after payment, we send a private order link. Keep that email to return from another device.
Will changing language erase my design?
The language switch keeps your working draft in the same browser tab. It changes the interface and generated labels, while your names, title and dedication remain your own text.
Can I adapt the dedication examples?
Yes. The original example lines in our dedication guide are starting points. Change the details to fit your own memory, and check the final wording and line breaks in the designer.
Birth and anniversary gifts
What do I need for a birth star map?
Their name, birth date and place. Add the local birth time if you know it to represent that particular moment. The dedication and styling changes are optional.
What if I do not know the birth time?
Turn off “I know the time.” We will use 22:00 local time and label it as illustrative on the design. It represents that chosen time, not the unknown exact time of birth.
Can I include siblings on one print?
Yes. You can create one to six skies and personalise each set of details. More skies mean less space for each map, so check the names and composition in the preview.
Which date should I choose for an anniversary star map?
Whichever you want to remember: when you met, your first date, a wedding or another important moment. If choosing one is difficult, you can include several in the same design.
Is this for both relationship and wedding anniversaries?
Yes. Names, the title and the dedication are editable. The template is a starting point and does not require a wedding date.
Can I get it by a particular date?
You can buy the digital files. After payment, your artwork is prepared for you to review and approve before downloading. We do not promise instant delivery. Printed options are not available yet.
Do I have to upload a birth certificate or personal photograph?
No. The map uses the event details you enter. You do not need to upload a certificate or family photograph. Include only the personal wording you want in the artwork.
Files and printing
Can I download the preview?
The on-screen preview is for checking your design. Downloads are available after payment and approval of the final artwork: a full-resolution PDF and PNG in your chosen size, without the preview watermark.
What should I check before approving final artwork?
Read every name, date, place and dedication. Check the time reference, selected size, crop, sky count and layout. A final production proof must be reviewed separately from the browser preview before the order is released.
Can I use a local print shop?
Yes. Use the final PDF or PNG at its intended size and ask the printer to confirm resolution, margins, bleed and colour requirements. Printing and framing are separate purchases.
Can the same file fit every frame size?
No. Changing the aspect ratio can crop the artwork, add margins or stretch it. Choose the final dimensions first, and never stretch a circular sky to fit a different rectangle.
When will I receive my digital files?
After payment, we email a private order link and prepare your artwork. Open the link, check the final proof and approve it to unlock the PDF and PNG downloads. We do not promise an instant download time.
Why would a private download link stop working?
Download links can expire. Return through your order email to access the order, or contact ron@webify.io for help. Downloads are blocked after a refund or dispute. Keep a local copy of your purchased files.
Purchase, digital delivery and support
Are the prices in the designer final?
Digital downloads cost £14.90 for one sky or £19.90 for two to six skies in one composition, including applicable taxes. Check your final total at secure checkout. Printing and framing are separate.
Can you guarantee arrival before a birthday or anniversary?
Digital artwork is prepared after payment and released after you approve the proof. We do not guarantee instant delivery or a particular deadline. Allow time to check the artwork and arrange any printing yourself. We do not currently ship printed products.
Can I change my wording after ordering?
Check your wording before paying. A purchase keeps a fixed copy of your design; editing the draft later does not change that order. If you spot an error, contact ron@webify.io before approving the proof.
How do I get help with a payment or request a refund?
Email ron@webify.io with your order reference and the problem, or use the support link in your payment receipt. Stripe Managed Payments handles transaction support and refunds. Applicable consumer rights remain in place. We currently sell digital files only; no physical item needs to be returned.
How are the guides written and checked?
KeptStars Team checks product claims against the current designer and links relevant sources for technical explanations. Fictional examples and untested physical products are identified. The author page explains the editorial method.
